Susanna Edwards is an artist, designer and senior lecturer. She is known for her diverse and innovative approach to the teaching and practice of art, design and illustration, spanning traditional and digital approaches to problem-solving.
Currently she is the pathway leader for the MA Graphic Design on the MA Design Suite at London Metropolitan University and a visiting research fellow. After graduating in 1996 she was invited to teach on the BA Hons Graphic Design course at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design at the age of 21.
Her own work often originates from traditional hands on ways of working such as letterpress and printmaking, but crosses over into digital and other areas such as photography, typography, print and publishing, editorial, research, writing, film and fine art. Shifting between different media with an emphasis on creativity and play, Edwards provides refreshing alternative art, design, research and art direction at the forefront of contemporary visual communication.
Commissions and collaborations have included Baseline magazine, the Institute of Contemporary Arts, Vintage Publishing, Grafik magazine, Design Week, Paul Smith, Selfridges, the British Council, the British Museum, Coco De Mer, Clerkenwell Literary Festival, Great Eastern Hotel, Iain Sinclair and, currently, the Science Museum, London.
She is available to work on small and large scale design commissions from editorial and print to web, in the roles of illustrator, typographer, designer or art director.
